The Brain Project

In 2022, funding was secured from the International Society of Cerebral Blood Flow & Metabolism (ISCBFM) to run a series of six “Brain Project” workshops across Primary Schools in Glasgow in collaboration with science communicator Dr Lizzie Burns.

The project was a tremendous success, with workshops involving around 600 pupils ranging from P5-P7 learning about structures in the brain and what they do while building their own brain from modelling clay.  They were able to take brains home and accompanying informative postcards to colour.

Dr Lizzie Burns delivered this novel workshop online and was supported in collaboration with post-doctoral scientists or PhD students in the classroom from the University of Glasgow for each class. Feedback was hugely positive frompupils, teachers and scientists in the classes.

This workshop combined art and neuroscience to inspire and encourage creativity and curiosity in the children.
